Helm Crag, Gibson Knott, Calf Crag and Steel Fell

Another good forecast, so with rain and warmth approaching for the weekend, it was another opportunity to make the most of the frozen ground conditions. A good horseshoe - cold with an increasing wind later in the day. Cracking views.

On the way up Helm crag -  the good path gets you up there quickly.

Looking across to Easedale Tarn.

Rocky being distracted by  the cars on Dunmail Raise.

A frosty Grasmere.

Helm Crag - the Lion and the Lamb.

The ridge towards Gibson Knott and Calf Crag.

Icy underfoot!

From Calf Crag towards Windermere.

Calf Crag.
Looking across to Helvellyn.

Thirlmere.

..and Steel Fell - it was a lot blowier than it looks!

Bearded Reedlings

Just a few more pictures of Bearded Reedlings at Leighton Moss...

One of my favourites ...'You can't see me!'

And look at those legs!

Leighton Moss in the sun

A glorious day, with a better forecast for South than North Cumbria, so down to Leighton Moss. Lots of ducks - especially Pintail and good views of the Bearded Tits (or Bearded Reedlings as they are now called).  We even had a Water Rail cross infront of us. Marsh Harriers and a Great White Egret obliged and together with a good variety of smaller species on the bird feeders - a grand day out!

We didn't arrive particularly early, so a first stop at the grit trays ...yeh!

We did get other views throughout the morning...see the next blog!

For once the main aggregation of ducks was infront of Lillian's hide ...

...including lots of Pintail.

Shoveler, Teal and Snipe.

Shoveler and Pintail.

More Pintail and Teal.

Great White Egret.

..and of course the reeds...

Nuthatch, Marsh Tit and Grey Squirrel at the birdfeeders.

A walk round Wedholme Moss yesterday - as I said, not much doing, but good to be out!

'Gryke' Sketchbook

As part of my exploration of all things to do with limestone (current project) ...I enjoyed making this sketchbook. It explores the lines made by the edge of grykes, at Moelfre on Anglesey, through black and white line, photographs and gelli prints.
