Wraysbury gravel pits and Ankerwycke

Well here in North Cumbria we have the first celandines and primroses ....Tom is though, clearly further on in Surrey!

Given the stunning weather on Saturday, I walked from the house down to Runnymede, over Runnymede Bridge to explore Wraysbury gravel pits and Ankerwckye. I had good views of goldeneye, tufted duck and great crested grebe on at Wraysbury, but the highlights were the flora and signs of spring.

Lesser celandine and hawthorn shoots.

Violets (sweet violet?)

Fumitory sp.

Blackthorn blossom.

Blackthorn in blossom and mistletoe at Ankerwycke.

Mistletoe seeds- placed on the tree branches by birds-I'll check these later in the year to see if any have germinated.

Alder.

Willow catkins.

Willow catkins.

Willow catkins- a different species.

Wraysbury gravel pits.

Unusual snowdrop varieties (naturalised).

Snowdrop varieties- there were two distinct varieties at Ankerwycke that were clearly thriving.
Male kestrel.

Old man's beard- last year's seed heads.
