The walk from Bunnahabhain to the beaches to the west of Rhuvaal is a long and hard one, but so worth while. The scenery is stunning and the coast is an outstanding example of fossil shoreline landforms, particularly shore platforms, cliffs and overlying glacial deposits. There are plenty of geomorphological papers about this for example click here . Another blog will follow with the wildlife...
Looking back towards Bunnahabhain. |
Rhuvaal lighthouse. |
The beaches... |
Thrift. |
Spectacular dykes - igneous intrusions and below... |
Shore platforms and raised beaches... |
Walking up and down from platform to beach - strenuous! |
After the beaches, the long slog back ...Jura on the skyline and Bunnahabhain in the distance. |
Finally nearly there. |
