Oxwich Burrows NNR

While my parents are down in south Wales, they stopped off and saw Tom in Swansea and went walking on the Gower- a great day at Oxwich Burrows NNR.

Photographing pyramidal and bee orchids in the dunes.
Small blue, common blue, and small heath.
Pyramidal orchids (Anacamptis pyramidalis).
Left: early marsh orchids (Dactylorhiza incarnata coccinea), middle: marsh helleborines (Epipactis palustris), in bud, with some plants being a few days from blooming. Right: common twayblade (Neottia ovata).
Bee orchids (Ophrys apifera) flowers. Some individuals (left and middle) had up to 5 flowers.
Bee orchids in the dune slacks surrounded by yellow rattle.
Possible pale variant of the bee orchid (or a faded specimen).
Oxwich Bay: on the way back.
