Mellbreak from Buttermere

A good walk out today in the last gasps of summer....Parked up on Newlands Pass and then down through Buttermere and along the back of Crummock Water before ascending onto Mellbreak. Lots of bog asphodel seed spikes and devil's-bit scabious down by the side of Crummock which played host to lots of butterflies - mainly peacocks with red admiral, painted lady and green-veined white. Stunning views as we climbed up onto Mellbreak...a steep final bit onto the top and then a nice step out to the summit. The path down White Crag was a bit of a scramble and then we returned along the side of Crummock.

Mellbreak

The damp grassland above - with lots of butterflies...

A good crab apple year!

Looking back to Fleetwith Pike.

Back towards Scale Knott and Buttermere; Grasmoor; Loweswater and Crummock Water.

Rocky on Mellbreak.

More peacocks ....
