Needle felted pumpkins

I really enjoyed making these and even more photographing them in my pumpkin patch. I just wish my real pumpkins were as big!

They were made by taking a polystyrene ball and carving it into a pumpkin shape with a bread knife. The felt tops were then needle felted into the polystyrene. It was worth noting that using sandpaper to finish the polystyrene made it a lot easier to needle felt as the solid finish on the balls had been removed. The balls/pumpkins were then placed in an old tight and put into the washing machine on a 50 degree wash...together with some towels that needed washing. After they came out the stalks were added. Leaves were dyed prefelt which was dyed, felted and then needle felted for the veins......and the twiddly, curly tendrils were wet felted pipe cleaners that were bent into a spiral...

Carving the polystyrene base ...messy!

Needle felted pumpkin in a tight prior to going into the washing machine...

The result ...before clearing the table for our dinner ...hence the plates and wine!

...and in the pumpkin patch!
