Whitesands to Penberry along the coast

A glorious and very bright, breezy morning. We parked up at Whitesands - and then set off for St David's Head where we had a really good search for Teloschistes flavicans, the Golden Hair lichen, which my father recorded and we saw some 25 years ago. We were unsuccessful but thoroughly enjoyed the hunt and the general lichen flora is still superb. We then followed the coastal footpath along to Penberry where we took the path up to the summit for lunch. It was what you might describe as a rather prickly ascent, through gorse, which the dog didn't particularly enjoy! Fantastic views up and down the coast and it was lovely to have a clattering of choughs fly by at regular intervals.

St Davids Head, South Bishop and a wave.

Iron age round houses and cromlech.

Great lichens.

Stone chat.

Looking towards Penberry.
Penberry and the view from the top.
