Aughertree Meltwater Channel

A very enjoyable visit to this favourite spot, this time with the folks. I really can't believe how different two consecutive days can be - persistent rain and mist today! Glad we got out! I'm not going to repeat previous comments about the site - take a look at this for more views of the meltwater channel and this for an explanation and details of its formation.

Parking up with views across to Skiddaw and High Pike.

The meltwater channel.

Lime kilns ...and hart's tongue fern.

The beech trees are beginning to turn colour.

A most spectacular wall winds its way along the channel.

Even the pond vegetation is turning....

Wheatear...wrong side of the wire! It can't be long before it heads south.

And no trip to Aughertree Fell would be complete
without a trip to the pond and a scrat for fossils.
