Bowness on Solway viaduct.

After Bowness railings yesterday, we went on to the viaduct at Bowness on Solway. In 1869 a viaduct was opened between Bowness and Annan to transport iron ore from West Cumberland to Scotland without going through Carlisle. The mile long viaduct was demolished in 1934 after having been damaged by several build ups of ice. Scotland looked very close in this gorgeous late summer/ autumnal weather we are having.

The path out....

Across to Scotland.

The end of the viaduct ....so close to Scotland!

We counted around 20 speckled woods enjoying the autumn sunshine.

Red Admiral.

The ivy was absolutley buzzing!

A tiny micro moth .

There were plenty of spider's webs contributing to a distinctly autumnal feel.
