Kentmere horseshoe....fantastic!

I'm trying to catch up with blogs - we had a busy weekend - this was last Friday!

What a glorious day for a classic walk! We left the house at 6am to get down to Kentmere for 7:30....and managed (just!) to get a carparking spot at the village hall. The walk up Garburn Pass and onto Yoke was gentle and then onto Ill Bell and a nice scramble down onto Froswick. A gentle ascent onto Thorthwaite Crag and lunch, before a really nice climb onto Mardale Ill Bell and Harter Fell. Round and onto Kentmere Pike and then back down over Shipman Knotts ...6 more Wainwrights for Rocky ...only 19 left for him ...what a grand day out!

An early start and autumnal mists.

The pinky apricot of the morning sky as we climbed up onto Yoke.

From Yoke across to Ill Bell.

Looking down over Kentmere reservoir.

Looking back down over Froswick from Thornthwaite Crag.

Looking back from Thornthwaite Crag to where we had come from...
.

From Mardale Ill Bell across Ullswater.

..and across to Harter Fell - a really nice stretch.

Looking west from Harter fell - Great Gable always stands out.

Following the wall down the far side of the horseshoe - over Kentmere Pike nad Shipman Knotts.

Rocky's six new Wainwrights.....

...and zonked in the sunshine!
