Harbour porpoise - Allonby

A rather chilly and breezy walk from Allonby where we found  a freshly stranded harbour porpoise.

Levant mine, Cornwall

Finally finished 'Ghosts of Levant'. A mixed media piece - patchwork, printing and machine embroidery....and a treat to do something for me.
The sketch, the plan for the patchwork and the patchwork.

The photo and the finished piece.

Paps of Jura

A 3' x 2' 6" oil painting of the Paps from our 'dragonfly pond'.

Mawbray - spectacular birds

A refreshing walk with huge flocks of grey plover; golden plover; oystercatcher; sanderling and a fantastic view of a peregrine trying to hover above the waves.

Baleshare iron-age midden finds

While we were on North Uist we extracted a few finds from the Baleshare midden - having done a bit of research it looks like they may actually be of interest! If any one can help - or give more information please do let me know.
From left to right: a weaving comb; an undeveloped comb; two broken awls for multiple tasks.

Mini oils - sell out!

Time to get painting again as the mini oils have more or less sold out! Looking at what I've got left on the bigger paintings front I need to get going again too - roll on January when things calm down (theoretically). The following are still available though...in the mean time...on with the glittering of cones and felt cockerels!
Jura; Behind Hawes; Criffel sunset; Porthclais - Pembrokeshire; Solway storm;
Castlerigg stone circle; Uldale: High Pike from Bowscale tarn;
Dob Ghyll - Thirlmere ; Pembrokeshire cottage.

Greenhill Craft Fair 2014 - prep!

It's beginning to get chaotic as  I try to gather and finish things for this Sunday!

Bedruthan Steps

A lovely walk along the beach - as always reflections in the water and stunning scenery!

Sketch on the beach

Just loved the colour of this old piece of plastic and the textures engraved in it.

Port Isaac

Walked over to Port Isaac from Port Quin. Lots of horse mushrooms, a clouded yellow butterfly and a ridiculously warm air temperature of 19.5 degrees!

Padstow and Harlyn to Park Head.

An early morning trip to Padstow - then Steve walked round to Park Head while I worked.

Zennor Head.

Nice walk ...and a pint of Tinners at 'The Tinners'...even better!
Rocky being Master and Commander of all he surveys...actually he legged it up the rock
and then spotted a car about 5 miles away and so was totally transfixed!

Levant mine, Pendeen.

Enjoyed exploring the Levant copper / tin / arsenic mine - far nicer to have walked along the coastal footpath from Pendeen Watch to the site rather than having come from the car park - much more atmospheric and better views.

Marc Messenger - Newlyn Art Gallery

This was an installation inspired by Ikebana - the art of Japanese flower arranging. It was really stunning and it was refreshing to find that the the gallery was both photo and dog friendly!

Newlyn Harbour in the mist

A walk round the harbour in the mist, the fleet were returning - including the Filadelfia off  'Trawler Wars'.

Trevose Head

A lovely walk around Trevose Head with good friends. Then a great surf - nice regular waves - with plenty of opportunity for riding down the face. Back to the Farmer's Arms at St Merryn  - great to be there on Dan's first night - good luck! Wish we could do this more often!

Kynance Cove to Cadgwith and back to Lizard Point.

From Kynance across Lizard Downs, would have been fabulous earlier in the year, to Cadgwith - one of those really gorgeous villages. I don't do 'chocolate-box' villages but couldn't resist some photos. The full village fleet was in and there were plenty of crabs for sale - sandwiches tomorrow! Returned to Lizard Point along the coastal path, cloud thick as a bag - down to sea level and rather damp. Constantly accompanied by the Lizard Light foghorn.

Lizard Point to Kynance Cove

A misty-moisty walk with good views of choughs, lovely to hear them calling, and lots of serpentine. Cut across the headland to Cadgwith but that's the next blog.
Serpentine

By-the-wind sailors - plenty were washed up in Kynance Cove.

Christmas gift tags

Nice and cheery, holly tags.

Abereiddy bay, Pembrokeshire.

Enjoyed painting this ...and looking for graptolites on the beach! Just took me rather a long time to get round to painting it!

Cockerels and painting

A productive day - painting of Skiddaw from Tewitt tarn; finished off attaching bells to cockerels feet; mounted leaf cards and finished last hearts!
