Waxwings

This year is a 'Waxwing Year' and we were privileged to catch up with more than 200 on the outskirts of Penrith.

There were over 200 flitting among the trees...

The light wasn't great ....

..unless one flew down, so it wasn't quite so silhouetted.

Moon Jellies

The Moon Jellyfish were spectacular ....in Maryport Aquarium....a fabulous design source!

Maryport Aquarium

As well as seeing our Cuttlefish (previous post) there were of course lots of other displays! I may have taken too many photographs of moon jellies!

Baby Lobsters...

Sea Horse rearing...

Adult Seahorse, stripey Prawn and fish that 'hang' vertically in the water column.

Moon Jellies.

Possibly the most stiking display - showing why we must dispose of plastic carefully - and how Turtles can easily confuse Jelly Fish with plastic.

Sea Anemones...and below...

Patterned Prawns...

More anemones...and below ...

Adult Cuttlefish.

Maryport Aquarium: our Cuttlefish

With visitors and some horrid weather, rather than our traditional beach walk, we decided that a visit to our baby Cuttlefish in Maryport Aquarium was in order ....

Back in July we had found Cuttlefish eggs stranded on the high tide line and rushed them to the Aquarium, where they hatched and flourished ...click here and here and here for more details.

There were 15 of them on display, with more in the back ...lovely to see them - not easy to photograph though through the glass!

The lower 'plants' of Ennerdale

Ennerdale is damp - hence the lovely lichen and moss flora ... I don't 'do' lichen names, so apologies! Here are a few pretty lichen pics!

Not a lichen - Candle-snuff Fungus.

Wrinkled Club Fungus.

Fir Clubmoss.

Ennerdale round the lake

With a decent forecast we decided to walk round Ennerdale - always a favourite!

A bit dismal ...

Signs of Spring!

Great-crested Grebe.

Beautifully clear waters of the Liza.

Great patterns....

Blue sky at the top end!

Towards Red Pike and High Stile.

Looking back up the lake....

Although a lake it is technically a 'Water'.
