A whispering kettle of hawk moths!

Just by way of explanation - googled the collective nouns for moths and hawks - whisper and kettle respectively . hence the title! 

Eyed Hawk Moth 

Poplar hawk moth ; Eyed hawk moth; Small elephant hawk moth and elephant hawk moth. 

June 3rd Moth trap ....

Left hand column: Beautiful golden Y ; Knot grass; Dusky brocade;Scalloped hazel .
Right hand column: Iron prominent; Small square spot ; Lychnis; Scorched wing .

Bistort and buttercups

I do so just love this time of year, the verges are so colourful : bistort, buttercups, red campion and cow parsley all at their best.

Poplar Hawk Moths

These are so special, and such a delight, when they turn up in the moth trap!

Wedholme flow - cotton grass and dragonflies.

A spectacular and warm walk out across this moss this afternoon. The cotton grass is in full flower and there is plenty of insect life too. Fabulous views across to Criffel in the north and Skiddaw in the south.

Finglandrigg NNR

A gloriously sunny afternoon and a walk round Finglandrigg with my folks. A lovely walk in itself, but the numbers of marsh fritillaries on the wing this afternoon was stunning. Many occasions where you had four or five in view at once!

Rockrose felt balls

Another trip out as part of the ongoing 'Felt Ball' project, this time to Clints Crags near Bothel, where I was able to photograph it amongst flowering rockroses - with a view behind.
