A walk along the river Caldew from Caldbeck.

A glorious, sunny and spring like afternoon so we walked along the river from Caldbeck. It's still well behind floristically for the time of year with: lots of celandines; just a few wood anemones; one or two garlic buds; one or two bluebell buds; a violet; some moschatel; opposite-leaved saxifrage and no sign of the herb Paris at all. Lovely to see peacock butterflies though and a small tortoiseshell butterfly.

We suddenly noticed a patch of yellow in the field below us ....in fact on closer inspection there are several fields with patches of yellow coltsfoot. Not in the usual spots though this year!

Coverack - Chynhalls Parc

Home now after a full days drive, back to cold, misty weather, after a splendid week exploring the Lizard Peninsula. We were based at Chynhalls Parc - just on the outskirts of the village. A super and very reasonably priced site - which I would thoroughly recommend. The static caravan was exceptionally well equipped and the local pub - the Paris Hotel, was within an easy walk and dog-friendly. Kennack sands geology.

Not an in-depth blog, but good to find lots of soapstone ( still love touching it and scraping it away with a fingernail) and some asbestos - really flakey. Gorgeous colours of serpentine and veins of calcite.

Cadgwith to Kennack Sands and on towards Black Head.

A quick walk out from Cadgwith - always pretty and fun to observe cars coming down into the village and meeting other cars! Along the coast to Kennack Sands and then on towards Black Head - the idea being to meet up with where we got to walking south from Coverack. The path though was hard work, muddy, so we decided to leave the final stretch for another day!

Church Cove ...near Mullion.

The church at Church Cove, just north of Poldhu is really spectacular ...it was a shame there wasn't more interpretation on site as it was so atmospheric. Apart from the fact Demelza and Ross Poldark were apparently married there in the recent TV series it appears that evidence of its existence dates back to 1332 and that there was a holy well situated near the porch. It is the only Cornish Church actually sited on a beach.
