Coniston Old Man; Brim Fell and Dow Crag

A good little round walk this morning taking in two new Wainwrights for Rocky. I'd gone up the old Man last year with Molly, but the weather was so atrocious we topped out and abandoned our proposed circuit. Today the weather wasn't much better in the morning, but it did come out abit as we descended in the early afternoon. This time we parked at the Walna Scar car park, after a bit of very careful driving - best in a 4X4 or something higher off the ground than a Mondeo estate! We then left Tom to head to the quarries on the side of the Old Man in search of trilobites while we went along the track from the carpark to the disused slate quarries and then up the usual path. After that we caught a glimpse of the path to Brim Fell and the cloud began to lift. After Brim Fell onto Dow Crag - a nice summit scramble for the dog - and back down to Goat's Water and the Walna Scar track where we met up with Tom again. The sun then came out as we returned to the car - typical!

The slate mines.......

Low Water - at least we could see across it this time!

Looking down across Coniston Water; back to the summit of Coniston Old Man and across to Brim Fell.

Down to Goat's Water and looking back up at Dow Crag.

The three summits: Coniston Old Man; Brim Fell and Dow Crag.
