Towards Rhuvaal and Bholsa.... again

For one final session of fieldwork, Tom and Steve once again returned to the north coast of Islay...

Grayling, juniper, green tiger beetle and a meadow pipit nest.

A family of three otters (one adult and two young) we watched while having lunch playing on the end of an igneous dyke. Their holt was also within the dyke, made possible by polygonal cracking creating spaces in the rock.

Common spotted X heath spotted orchid, a large heath spotted orchid, harebell and a common twayblade.

Mist over the Paps and views of the north coast...

and the reason we were there..... more stromatolites!
