Robin Hood's Bay to Ravenscar - fossils and fault.

Today’s walk was from our base in Robin Hood’s Bay to Ravenscar and back. This time we were able to complete our walk along the base of the cliff and return along the Cleveland way into Robin Hood’s Bay and then back home along the Cinder track. Scrambling up the cliff at Ravenscar (if we’d just gone round the corner there were steps!) we found ourselves following the ‘Peak Fault’. This major fault runs out to sea, but clear evidence of it is seen in the cliff face where rocks to the left of the path are massive sandstones with softer layers in between, while to the right are mainly shale.

Returning along the Cleveland Way we then happened upon the Peak Alum works ....see the next blog!

My favourites - crinoids.

Ammonites - just as we approached Ravenscar.

Oysters, crinoids, coral and devil's toenails!

Belemnites in abundance ....

...and below the Peak Fault. The photo distorts the cliff but shows the path following the fault line.
