Port Mulgrave

A good day fossil hunting at Port Mulgrave. After a walk along the beach a quick walk north from the quay - we'd not done this bit previously, so it was great to see the seams of jet in the cliff and where people had mined it. After that a walk along the Cleveland way into Staithes for a crab sandwich and a brief exploration of the expansive wave cut platform. There are too many photographs for a single blog, so the fishermen's huts at Port Mulgrave, our fossil finds and Staithes will follow!

Looking back to the quay at Port Mulgrave.

Rosedale Cliffs.

Concretions ....

Excavated jet seam...

The back of the hole....jet!

...and many more holes ...

The Old Nab ..there is a set of four fixed ropes that take you from the beach up to the cliff top - I won't deny - bloody hard work!
