Gamelands Stone Circle, Orton

On the way back from Waitby Greenriggs we called in to Gamelands Stone Circle. We weren't away of its existence, but I just happened to notice it on the OS map when I was navigating back through the lanes between Ravenstonedale and Orton.  It was close to the road and when there was a newly made carpark and obvious signage we paid a visit. It's rather nice! (Grid Ref: NY 640082)

Although it is one of the largest stone circles in Cumbria, all it's stones have fallen and only 33 of the original 40 stones remain. Artefacts suggest a date of 1800 - 1400 BC. All bar one of the stones are made from Shap granite. (https://www.visitcumbria.com/evnp/gamelands-stone-circle/)
