With a dullish, but dry day forecast we headed for the colourful Parys Mountain. In the 18th Century, Parys Mountain was the world's largest copper mine, but copper has been mined since the Bronze Age, but it was not until the 1760s when a large mass of copper ore was discovered that large sale mining began. Today there is still believed to be 6.5 million tonnes of ore left below the site, containing zinc, copper and lead, with small amounts of silver and gold. As always a great walk - here's the link to the trail leaflet - it would have been handy if I had found this before we went!
