Ferns textile

The other day I had a morning creating a variety of backgrounds, that I might mix and match into a background for a textile piece. They were all based on the ferns sketchbook that I created a while back.

Pages from my sketchbook. Click here for detailed images.

First of all I played around with some of them using the free Snapseed App. I quite liked them and fancied creating something similar in textiles ...

So mainly for my record are a few pictures of what I did and how...

Printing my photos onto fabric using the computer.

Gelli printing using a mixture of hand cut stencils and real ferns as stencils ...onto a 'failed' discahrge dyed piece that also had transfer crayon marks on it.

Using a Tjanting tool and wax onto silk and then silk paints were added and fixed.

As above, but over lain onto a reject lino print from a previous project: Click here for the lino cut.

Crayon transfer onto gelli printed fabric.

Having done these I then photographed them and rearranged them into a collage using Publisher - being careful not to change their relative sizes when moving them around....

An idea for a textile background.

Next step - trying to patchwork the originals together as above ...we'll see how it changes....!
