As we are staying relatively close to Minsmere, it seemed sensible (after a long journey yesterday), to make this our first stop. We only did a small part of the reserve, around the scrapes....but were well rewarded. Our first stop was to see a Firecrest that had been caught and was being weighed etc. A tiny bird, weighing only 5.7g - a pound coin is 8g! After that a good walk round the scrapes: Avocets, Sandwich Terns, Black-tailed Godwits which were colouring up, Mediterranean Gulls displaying Redshank....and a lovely Adder on the path too.

Mediterranean Gull - behind the Gadwall (the Med Gull has the really black head and thick red bill). |

Squawking Black-headed Gulls - there were many and they were very noisy. |
