Drumburgh Moss Textile

Well finally I have finished my Drumburgh core textile ...now to mount and frame it! the piece is 110cm long.

Based on a scientific paper about the pollen and macrofossils of the Solway Mosses, this textile explores the boundaries and content of a hypothetical core from Drumburgh. 

The top layer is today's land surface and shows cranberry, which continues as a theme down the core with the berries decaying and fading towards the base of the core. 

The top greener layers include the leaves of cranberry; hazel pollen and the cell structure of Sphagnum cuspidata. 

Below that you get alder pollen with cotton grass cell structure which then descends into Calluna leaves. 

The basal grey section is pine pollen with background Polytrichum cell structure.
