The standing stones of Stenness

Day 4 saw a misty moisty morning, which cleared out later on, so we decided to do 'some stones' - a more atmospheric light perhaps than in full sun. The first stop was the standing stones of Stenness. They were undoubtedly impressively tall but why were most of the visitors more intent on photographing the ugly texel sheep than the stones?  The 11 or 12 stones were raised 5000 yrs ago and have a hearth at the centre of them similar to those seen in the adjacent Barnhouse.

The Barn house - ( a cluster of buildings)  adjacent to the stones.

A hasty field sketch.
