Lindisfarne and Bamburgh ...

The weather forecast for Cumbria was fairly atrocious for the day, so we took off to the North East, where it was predicted to be dry. First stop was Lindisfarne where we managed an hour and a bit before having to return before being cut off from the mainland. What a treat! The village itself was very picturesque with its red tile roofs - reminding me of Norfolk. The priory had lovely carvings and the castle was indeed spectacular. The upturned herring boats that are now used as fishermen's sheds however were superb! They were so photogenic, textural and inspiring and demand a much longer visit, paint and photography session.....and their own blog - but that will have to be tomorrow! After Lindisfarne we went down to Bamburgh for a walk along the beach, before visiting Seahouses for a very late lunch - and photographs of eider ducks - another blog! Returning to wet roads in Cumbria, we had made the correct decision!
