Marsh Harriers and Garganey

The weather isn't great, but looked ok - ish, down in South Cumbria. So we headed down to Leighton Moss to enjoy the arrival of the Sand Martins and Swallows, the displaying Marsh Harriers and the rarity, that has been around for a while - the pair of Garganey...

Annoyingly, the best Marsh Harrier view was just as we walked into a hide, so there was no time to open the window and the photographs had to be taken through glass.....

The Garganey were, like most things, trying to shelter from the keen wind of Storm Kathleen and the light wasn't easy, but they are beautiful ducks!

Finally they played ball...

The wind was strong, so not many other photos, but to see large numbers of Sand Martins with a few Swallows was heart-warming. A calling Green-woodpecker, as we left, rounded off another good day on this lovely reserve.

Pochard.

Gadwall.

Tufted Duck ...the wind playing havoc with their tufts!
