Carrock mine, Grainsgill - 'The Wolframite mine'.

A short trip out - up to Swineside and then we walked up to Carrock Mine. This mine is the only one outside of Cornwall and Devon that has wolframite. Tungsten is the metal that is extracted from Wolframite. The last period of working finished in 1981...there is lots of information, from people far more knowledgeable than me, if you google Carrock Mine!

Remains of the tungsten mill.

Carrock mine....
Top let - quartz and right - wolframite
Bottom left - possible mica and more quartz.

Red-tailed bumble bee and rosebay willowherb.

Late summer colours ...in early August....
