Irton Fell; Whin Rigg; Illgill Head, Burnmoor tarn and Miterdale circular walk.

A cracking walk with superb views - we parked at the free carpark labelled Pit (dis) on the OS map on the side of Irton Fell and followed the obvious footpath from the carpark onto Irton Fell and then onto Whin Rigg and Illgill Head. A great ridge walk with splendid views into Wasdale. We then came down to Burnmoor tarn and attempted to find our way back to the carpark though the forestry plantation, but there had been felling, so we decided to stick to the obvious path and road that came down to Eskdale Green and the Bowerhouse Inn...before returning to the car.

Overlooking Wasdale.

The tarns between Whin Rigg and Illgill Head  - Unbranched bur reed, Herdy and clouds.

Panorama; towards Great Gable and Burnmoor tarn.
