Frog orchids

Another quick trip click for previous visit up to Headend quarry and to our delight we found three frog orchids in flower! The late summer flowers are beginning to come to their best - lots of : small scabious, lady's bedstraw, thyme, meadow sweet and harebells. Sadly there is only a small and very vulnerable population of frog orchids and the site could do with some proper management.

The quarry.

Harebells.

Frog orchid and specimens below.

Fragrant orchid sp, bistort, common spotted orchid, small scabious with burnet moth and tufted vetch.
