Sandsend to Runswick bay - and jet!

A long coastal walk with some great finds - most notably a large lump of jet. There was a diversion due to potential cliff collapse outside Sandsend, that led directly to the cliff top. Then onwards we skirted the coast before descending to Runswick Sands and turning right towards Kettleness. The tide was low so we were able to explore the back of the beach and the wave-cut platform. Luckily, we found a distinct patch of coal and jet deposits that led to the larger find. It was also good to find cowries - something I always enjoy!

Towards Runswick.

The wave-cut platform.

Ammonite and scallop.

A new one for me - a belamnite phragmocone.

The tide line with plenty of shells and small lumps of jet and coal.

Blue-rayed limpets and cowries.

The larger lump of jet!

Pussy willow on the way back.
