The first of our usual two pilgrimages to Upper Teesdale. We weren't sure when to go as the year is generally so far behind, but the dale didn't disappoint. With the weather being so cold and wet, yesterday was forecast to be dry; it was - we weren't suprised to see fresh snow on the tops though as we drove across.
It was the usual walk - from Hangingshaw; down to the river; along the Pennine way; past Falcon Clints and up Cauldron Snout to return via the Langdon Beck Hotel and the road.
All the classsic flora was out and we had good views of ring ouzels, including one fighting with a merlin, as well as black grouse.

My dream house continues to fall into disrepair. |
Common sandpiper and red grouse. Luckily any rain held off - spectacular skies over the mountain pansies at Widdybank. |
Spring gentians, alpine bartsia, bird's-eye primrose and mountain pansies. |
