Eycott Cumbria Wildlife Trust reserve.

Having seen the marsh fritillary butterflies on the wing at Finglandrigg earlier in the week click here, we decided that, having seen a marsh frit caterpillar at Eycott earlier in the year click here,  we should check the state of play on the reserve. There were no fritillaries - either small pearl-borderd or marsh, on the wing as the reserve is still well behind other sites, as it is at a higher altitude. There were lots of small heaths, as well as a single small copper and the bog bean was spectacular. There were lots of cuckoo flower and some marsh marigolds out too, showing that we are not, really fully into summer.

Looking past Eycott Hill towards Blencathra.
