Smardale - the wildlife and flora

Cumbria Wildlife Trust's Smardale reserve was well worth a visit at the weekend. We timed our visit to coincide with when the northern brown argus should be on the wing - which they were. The rockrose (the caterpillar's food plant) was spectacular. The greater butterfly orchids were bob on as was the bloody crane's-bill. The reserve is generally stunning at the moment!
