Eycott Hill nature reserve

On the way back from Smardale, we decided to stop off at Eycott. having seen a marsh fritillary caterpillar there earlier in the year click here I would love to see an adult. The marsh fritillaries at Finglandrigg are near the end of their flight season, but Eycott is at a greater altitude and floristically way behind elsewhere, so we were hopeful! However there were no fritillaries to be seen, including small pear-bordered - there's time yet! Coronation meadow though, on the otherhand, was spectacular!

Foxgloves with Blencathra.

Coronation Meadow.

Ragged robin; northern marsh orchid; bugle; bogbean and cranberry.

Small heath.

A personal favourite: marsh cinquefoil.

Coronation meadow.

Belted Galloways - happily grazing.
