Eycott Hill

After our trip to Smardale we decided to call in at Eycott. Earlier the year, I found a marsh fritillary caterpillar and would love to see an adult, confirming that the reserve has a resident population. Click here for the marsh frit caterpillar story Well there was no sign of fritillaries - marsh or small pearl-bordered (there's a good populaton on the reserve), but Coronation meadow was splendid!

Foxgloves with Bencathra.

Coronation meadow.

Small heath.

Ragged robin; heath spotted orchids; bugle; bog bean and cranberry.

A favourite - marsh cinquefoil.

The meadow.

Happy grazing belted Galloways.
